§ Q6. Mr. Clinton Davisasked the Prime Minister how many letters he has received in his official capacity from residents of the London Borough of Bexley concerning the rise in the cost of living.
§ The Prime MinisterStatistics are not kept which classify letters by the address or place of residence of the writer.
§ Mr. DavisI thank the Prime Minister for that very helpful reply. Whatever the situation, is he not aware that the votes of the electors of the London Borough of Bexley, and, indeed, of those in Bromsgrove, are more eloquent than letters and that, at a stroke, they indicated precisely what they thought of the right hon. Gentleman's pledges given on 16th June and his policies?
§ The Prime MinisterI think that, like other hon. Members, I can satisfactorily look after my constituency without any assistance from the hon. Gentleman. However, in my constituency we held five of the eight wards and had 49 per cent. of the votes against the hon. Gentleman's party's 46 per cent.
§ Mr. WellbelovedIs the Prime Minister aware that the Bexley Housewives Protection League, which sent him a number of letters, has kindly sent me copies of those letters, signed by several hundred of the right hon. Gentleman's constituents, who expressed the fear that before he finds time to reply to them he will have deserted his loyal supporters in the constituency of Bexley for a safer seat elsewhere in Kent?
§ The Prime MinisterThe hon. Gentleman will find that they, like all my constituents, will get very speedy replies.
