33. Mr. Costain

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what progress he has made in his review of possible reclassification for national insurance purposes of self-employed persons in the construction industry ; and whether he will give an assurance that he will consult fully with the industry on this matter.

Mr. Dean

Officers of my Department have met representatives of the C.B.I. and employers in the industry and of the T.U.C. Consultations are continuing.

Mr. Costain

My hon. Friend's action is fully accepted by the industry. Will he continue his negotiations?

Mr. Dean

I am much obliged to my hon. Friend, and I gladly give him that assurance.
