HC Deb 26 January 1971 vol 810 cc315-6
Q6. Mr. Dalyell

asked the Prime Minister what steps he is taking to coordinate the efforts of the Secretary of State for the Home Department, the Secretary of State for Education and Science, and the Secretary of State for Social Services to combat the increase of drugtaking among school pupils, and those between 15 and 18 years who have left school.

The Prime Minister

There are standing arrangements to co-ordinate the work of the Departments concerned.

Mr. Dalyell

Which Department has the final say in this matter?

The Prime Minister

It would depend on the particular aspect of the matter with which one is dealing. It is surely important that the various Departments should, in their work, co-ordinate their activities. The advisory and inter-Departmental machinery includes representatives of all the Departments, on similar lines to the steps announced by the previous Administration, which the hon. Gentleman supported.
