HC Deb 05 April 1971 vol 815 cc6-7
8. Mr. Frank Allaun

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he is aware that some car insurance companies which have ceased to trade have continued to receive payments under standing bankers' orders, where, through inadvertence, these have not been stopped; and what action he will take by legislation or otherwise to prevent this.

Sir J. Eden

If a policyholder inadvertently pays premiums to an insurance company after it has gone into liquidation, he should apply for reimbursement to the liquidator.

Mr. Allaun

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that the receiver for the Alpha company has gone on accepting such payments for six months? As the Minister has some responsibility in this case, is he not morally and legally bound to see that these repayments are made?

Sir J. Eden

The proper course is to make application to the liquidator.

Mr. Allaun

That is no answer.

Sir J. Eden

Then I shall look into the matter to see whether I can help.
