§ 12. Mr. Muddasked the Secretary of State for the Environment why, on 23rd July 1970, the fire brigade unit at the House of Commons was not equipped with breathing apparatus; and if he will make a statement.
§ The Under-Secretary of State for the Environment (Mr. Paul Channon)Until the incident on 23rd July it was thought sufficient for the London Fire Brigade, who are immediately warned of any 201 fire or similar incident, to provide any special equipment required. Respirators affording protection against CS Gas have now been provided for the use of the Fire Brigade unit at the Palace of Westminster.
§ Mr. ChannonI understand that these respirators, which provide adequate protection against CS gas, require no special training in their use.
