HC Deb 28 October 1970 vol 805 c218
34. Mr. Torney

asked the Chairman of Select Committee of House of Commons (Services) whether the employees of the Catering Department of the House of Commons are members of a trade union.

Dr. Reginald Bennett

I have been asked to reply. Members of the staff of the Catering Department are free to join trade unions if they so wish. The union generally considered applicable is the Municipal and General Workers' Union.

Mr. Torney

Would the hon. Gentleman please inform me whether facilities would be granted to the appropriate trade union to meet the workers in the Catering Department within the precincts of the Department?

Dr. Bennett

I can certainly see no reason why not.

Dame Joan Vickers

Has my hon. Friend been able to have a meeting? We previously had meetings in the Members' Dining Room between staff and the trade union concerned. Will he be holding these meetings again?

Dr. Bennett

I am certainly willing to afford any facilities which are asked for.
