HC Deb 26 November 1970 vol 807 c587
3. Mr. Moyle

asked the Minister of State for Defence how many British troops on average he expects to undergo training in the Malaysian jungle warfare school during the years after 1971.

The Under-Secretary of State for Defence (Mr. Ian Gilmour)

This is one of the subjects under discussion by the five Commonwealth Governments concerned in the area.

Mr. Moyle

Will the hon. Gentleman agree that, even if the troops at the jungle warfare school combine with the battalion group that is supposed to be stationed east of Suez, the British troops will be too small in number to frighten anyone out there, and who are they supposed to fight?

Mr. Gilmour

That hardly arises from the Question. The troops using the jungle warfare school will not be only those stationed in Singapore and Malaysia.
