§ 48. Mr. Pavittasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if the community centre proposed by the Brent Community Relations Council falls within the purposes of the Urban Aid Programme; if an extension of time for submission of projects was requested by the London Borough of Brent; and if this project has now been submitted to him.
§ Mr. CarlisleCommunity centres are in principle within the scope of the Urban Programme, but it is for the local authority to decide in each case whether a particular proposal should be put forward to my right hon. Friend for approval. No project in Brent of the kind referred to has been submitted to him. The time for this autumn's submission of projects was extended from mid-September to 12th October, 1970, as a result of inquiries from a number of local authorities, of which Brent was one.
§ Mr. PavittWhat was the reason for putting off this important project for community relations? Is he aware that in Willesden we have the highest number of immigrants of any area in the country but the best community relations committee? Will he use his influence in this programme to see that this project gets off the ground?
§ Mr. CarlisleI will certainly look at any representations that the hon. Gentleman makes.
