HC Deb 26 November 1970 vol 807 cc590-1
7. Mr. Adley

asked the Minister of State for Defence if, in view of the Government's decision not to purchase the C5 aircraft, he will make a statement on the proposed military version of the BAC311.

9. Mr. Moyle

asked the Minister of State for Defence whether Her Majesty's Government intends to order another air transport in substitution for the C5.

Mr. Antony Lambton

We are studying the longer-term transport requirements of the Services and how best they can be met.

Mr. Adley

Would my hon. Friend not agree that, in view of the revised Government defence policy, particularly east of Suez, and particularly in view of the answer given to the hon. Member for Loughborough (Mr. Cronin), there is a need in the Far East for shorter-range military aircraft than the VC10, and is not the BAC311 admirably suited to this task?

Mr. Lambton

All options on this matter are still left open.

Mr. Speaker

Mr. Moyle, supplementary?

Mr. Moyle

No, Sir.

Later

Mr. Moyle

On a point of order. I am sorry to waste the time of the House, Mr. Speaker, but I did not understand that Questions Nos. 7 and 9 were being taken together. May I ask Question No. 9?

Mr. Speaker

No. I offered the hon. Gentleman the opportunity to put a question at the right moment.
