HC Deb 20 November 1970 vol 806 c1661

Queen's Recommendation having been signified

Motion made, and Question proposed, That, for the purposes of any Act of the present Session to make further provision for the protection of persons from fire risks, it is expedient to authorise the payment out of moneys provided by Parliament of any expenditure incurred by the Secretary of State under or by virtue of that Act and any increase attributable to any provision of that Act in the sums payable under any other enactment out of moneys so provided.—[Mr. Sharpies.]

Mr. Merlyn Rees (Leeds, South)

I hope that I am in order in asking about one point. Much finance is at the root of what we have been talking about today. Because of the news which will come this week about a cut in the rate support grant we might wish to look at the financial aspect again. May I have an assurance that procedurally, if changes are made, this would be possible in Committee?

The Minister of State, Home Office (Mr. Richard Sharpies)

If I may reply. It is not for me to say whether procedurally it is possible to discuss this matter in Committee. It is a matter for the Chair in Committee. However, I am willing to give any help that I possibly can.

Question put and agreed to.
