Mr. Hugh Jenkinsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will propose legislation to amend Section 6 of the Race Relations Act so as to make it illegal to advertise racially discriminated employment not only in respect of positions in this country but also in respect of overseas employment.
§ Mr. SharplesSection 6 of the Race Relations Act, 1968 already makes it unlawful to indicate an intention to discriminate on grounds of colour, race or ethnic or national origin in an advertisement which appears in this country and offers employment either here or overseas.
§ Mr. Hugh JenkinsAre not most of the jobs in South Africa which are advertised in this country racially discriminatory? If what the hon. Gentleman says is true, is it not true that the law is not being enforced; and will he enforce it?
§ Mr. SharplesIt is for the Race Relations Board to take action if it considers that the law is broken in any particular case.
