HC Deb 04 November 1970 vol 805 c1058
3. Mr. Booth

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how frequently examiners will visit Barrow-in-Furness for the purpose of testing applicants for public service vehicle licences.

The Minister for Transport Industries (Mr. John Peyton)

As often as is necessary.

Mr. Booth

While thanking the right hon. Gentleman for that assurance, may I ask him to say whether local authorities in the vicinity of heavy goods vehicle testing centres will be required to send trainee drivers to those centres for P.S.V. licence testing purposes and, if so, how far a local authority must be from a centre before an examiner will be sent to the local authority?

Mr. Peyton

If the hon. Gentleman has any particular anxieties about this, I hope he will let me know and I will certainly look at them. As far as Barrow is concerned, I have already given him the assurance for which I think he asked.
