§ 46. Mr. Maurice Macmillanasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he is satisfied with the present method of remuneration for doctors; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. CrossmanMethods of remuneration are kept under review in consultation with the profession and if the hon. Member has particular points in mind I shall be glad to consider them.
§ Mr. MacmillanIt is the junior hospital doctors who are mostly in contact with the public and who therefore tend to work very long hours. To what extent is the burden of dealing with the public, particularly in emergencies, apt to fall on tired and overworked men?
§ Mr. CrossmanI would say that there was substance in that criticism. It is something which we must bear in mind when assessing remuneration. That explains my reply to the previous Question.
