HC Deb 16 July 1970 vol 803 cc1725-6
Q10. Mrs. Joyce Butler

asked the Prime Minister what proposals he has for co-ordinating Ministerial responsibilities for consumer protection in one consumer protection Department.

The Prime Minister

None, Sir.

Mrs. Joyce Butler

Will the Prime Minister reconsider his reply and consider the Co-operative Movement's suggestion on a Ministry of Consumer Welfare in view of the ever-growing importance and complexity of consumer problems and the difficulties of the fragmentation of consumer questions among at least half-a-dozen Ministries, in none of which is consumer protection the prime responsibility?

The Prime Minister

I do not think it would be appropriate to create a separate Department to attend only to these matters for they are, of course, dealt with by a considerable number of Government Departments.
