asked the Minister of Transport what is the planned completion date of the Boughton bypass, A2.

The end of 1974, I hope.

Is my hon. Friend aware of the extreme local anxiety about this long-delayed extension of the A2, and will he do everything in his power to ensure that the work is carried out at the earliest possible opportunity?

Mr. Heseltine

I am aware of the problem; it has been raised by other hon. Members. Unfortunately, there have been objections to the draft order under Section 7 of the Highways Act, 1959. An order under Section 9 and a compulsory purchase order are to be published, and these may in turn attract further objections.
