asked the Minister of Transport when the proposed improvements will start on the A30 between Exeter and Okehampton, Devon.

The Exeter-Okehampton improvement is in the early stages of preparation. It is not yet possible to say when construction will start.

Does my hon. Friend realise the growing anger in the West Country about the A30, which is a disgrace, and that we need to see these improvements started immediately?

Mr. Heseltine

My hon. Friend will, I think, realise that, perhaps as much as he does, I appreciate the need for developing the A30. It is part of the overall strategic concept of making the A30 a dual carriageway route the whole way from Exeter to Penzance.
