HC Deb 13 July 1970 vol 803 cc1125-6
14. Mr. Maclennan

asked the Minister of Technology what proposals he has for altering the structure and work of the Government's research establishments; and if he will make a statement.

24. Mr. Dalyell

asked the Minister of Technology if he will publish a White Paper on his policy towards the Government Research Establishments.

Mr. David Price

We are considering the future of the Department's research establishments, in the light of the many constructive comments on the previous Administration's Green Paper. We will make a statement as soon as we have completed the review.

Mr. Maclennan

What is the Minister's time scale for consideration of these important questions and will he endeavour to make a statement before the Summer Recess?

Mr. Price

I cannot tell the hon. Gentleman how long it will take, but it will not be possible to do this before the Summer Recess.

Mr. Dalyell

What plans have the Government to hive off sectors of public research establishments into private hands?

Mr. Price

That is one aspect, but I cannot go further today than to say that we are reviewing the whole system.

Sir H. Legge-Bourke

Will the Minister also take into account the recommendations of the Report of the Select Committee on Science and Technology about defence research establishments?

Mr. Price

Yes. This and many other factors which my hon. and gallant Friend might have raised are relevant to the total review.
