HC Deb 13 July 1970 vol 803 cc1136-7
38. Mr. Milne

asked the Minister of Technology if he will take steps to arrange for the siting of storage depots for smokeless and other fuels in areas where coal fired central heating exists on a large scale; and if he will make a statement.

Sir J. Eden

This is a matter for the trade.

Mr. Milne

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that the Government cannot duck their responsibility in this matter? While the trade has its problems to solve in relation to the coming winter, the facilities for tackling the problems must be provided by the Government. Is he further aware that local authorities in many parts of the country have provided housing schemes with coal-fired central heating, and that they need some assistance and protection in this matter?

Sir J. Eden

I am looking into the whole position, and on the question of certain qualities of solid fuels, I shall be making a statement later.
