§ 26. Mr. Frank Allaunasked the Attorney-General when he expects to receive the Law Commission's report on the Limitation Act 1963; if he will consider an early deadline for completion of these reports; and if he will make a statement.
§ The Attorney-GeneralI cannot give a precise date on which these reports may be expected, but both the Government and the Law Commissions appreciate that this is a question of social importance which should be resolved as quickly as possible. The issues are, however, complex and their examination necessitates consultation with a number of bodies concerned. This consultation is proceeding now.
§ Mr. AllaunI thank the Attorney-General for that reply, but is he aware that the Commission states that the three current proposals only tinker with the Act? Will he therefore recommend, in addition, at least the abolition of the need to apply to a judge for leave?
§ The Attorney-GeneralThese are matters which it is best to leave to the Law Commission. I appreciate and sympathise with the feeling of the hon. Gentleman, which I know is shared by many hon. Members, but this is in the hands of the Law Commission. I will do what I can to make sure we get the answer as quickly as possible, but it is a matter of great complexity.
