HC Deb 08 July 1970 vol 803 cc645-6
8. Mr. Lambie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on proposed developments at Hunterston/Portencross, Ayrshire.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

I understand that the report of the public inquiry into these proposals is likely to be submitted to me within a few weeks. It would be improper for me to make any statement until I have received and considered it.

Mr. Lambie

Because of the importance of the Ayr County Council proposals to the future of industry in Scotland, and as the House will soon be in the long Summer Recess, will the right hon. Gentleman assure us that no adverse decision will be taken on these proposals before there has been a discussion on the Floor of the House?

Mr. Campbell

I give the assurance that there will be no avoidable delay in coming to a decision. I understand that very full evidence on all aspects was given to the inquiry, and I can assure the hon. Gentleman that they will all be taken into account.

Dr. Dickson Mabon

Is the Secretary of State telling us that the whole report, parts 1 and 2, will be available in a few weeks?

Mr. Campbell

I am expecting the whole report within a few weeks.
