HC Deb 07 July 1970 vol 803 cc483-4
36. Mr. Turton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement upon the report of the Programme for National Recovery on the use of resources in Great Britain, which has been submitted to him.

Mr. Maurice Macmillan

My right hon. Friend will be studying this interesting proposal and constructive suggestions from any other sources in considering the Government's policies on taxation and public expenditure.

Mr. Turton

Will my hon. Friend pay particular attention to the striking evidence in that document that the low rate of industrial investment has been due largely to the fact that the public sector has taken more than half of the gross domestic product?

Mr. Macmillan

That is a point to which we shall be giving great attention.
