§ 46. Mr. Laneasked the Minister of Technology whether he is satisfied with the solid smokeless fuel supply prospects for the coming winter; and if he will make a statement.
§ Sir J. EdenAs the previous Government indicated, the situation may be difficult. I am therefore urgently looking into the position and will make a statement as soon as possible.
§ Mr. LaneIs my hon. Friend aware that he will have strong support for any action that he takes to prevent in future the failures of co-ordination which have occurred in the last two or three years and which led to this situation?
§ Sir J. EdenI am sure that it is right today to make certain that the necessary supplies are available.
§ Mr. BarnettHas the hon. Gentleman not had information, from the North-West in particular, that regardless of what the weather next winter will be, there is a definite shortage of smokeless fuel and that people in the North-West are anxious to know what action will be taken?
§ Sir J. EdenThe North-West is one of the areas which are particularly affected by the present situation. That is why I am looking into the matter so urgently.
