HC Deb 06 July 1970 vol 803 c297
2. Mr. John Wells

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will take steps to require local road authorities in Wales to list well-known short cuts in their areas and give urgent attention to eliminating danger spots on these roads.

The Minister of State, Welsh Office (Mr. David Gibson-Watt)

I am not aware of any generally recognised short cuts of this kind in Wales. Through traffic normally finds it quickest to keep to orthodox routes, the improvement of which is being vigorously tackled in the course of the road programme.

Mr. Wells

Has my hon. Friend yet had an opportunity to study the two maps that I sent him which, although applying to England, are typical of the short cuts of the sort that I have in mind for Wales, too? Will he apply himself again to the letter and the maps that I sent him?

Mr. Gibson-Watt

If my hon. Friend will send me a map that specifically deals with the Welsh problem I shall be prepared to look at it.
