19. Mr. Dodds-Parker

asked the Minister of Overseas Development when she expects that the two powered barges, on order for the Government of the Turks and Caicos Islands, will be delivered to Grand Turk.

Mrs. Hart

I understand that only one powered barge has as yet been ordered, but I am informed that it is likely that the Administrator intends to apply for capital aid funds in the year 1970–71 for the purchase of a second barge.

The barge at present on order should be delivered towards the end of August.

Mr. Dodds-Parker

Is the right hon. Lady aware that these islands are held up in their development by the shortage of barges of this type? Will she do all that she can to make the delivery date earlier?

Mrs. Hart

I will. The problem is one of the delivery period. The hon. Gentleman and I are two of the few people who know the Turks and Caicos very well.
