HC Deb 17 February 1970 vol 796 c195
21. Mr. Ridsdale

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much tax he estimates will be collected from the £15 tax imposed in his last budget on 1d. slot machines; and how much of this tax will come from the seaside resorts.

Mr. William Rodgers

The duty yield from holiday season licences is expected to be under £1 million a year. Almost all of this will come from seaside resorts.

Mr. Ridsdale

Will not the hon. Gentleman look at this? Does not he realise that many small seaside businesses face ruin as a result of this tax?

Mr. Rodgers

The hon. Gentleman exaggerates the position, but representations were made yesterday to my hon. and learned Friend the Financial Secretary.
