HC Deb 11 February 1970 vol 795 c1253
36. Mr. Stratton Mills

asked the Lord President of the Council if he will propose that the House should rise for the Summer Recess at the end of June and reassemble at the end of September.

Mr. Peart

No, Sir.

Mr. Stratton Mills

Would not a Recess over this period be very much for the convenience of hon. Members and fit in more with life outside the House?

Mr. Peart

There are arguments for this, but I have always to bear in mind the progress of business.

Mr. McNamara

Is there not some merit in the hon. Member's suggestion for once, in that we would be able to visit the area which he represents and see what sort of progress is being made by the Government in the ending of discrimination, the improvement of job opportunities and the building of new houses and all the other things which had not happened in Northern Ireland?

Mr. Peart

Hon. Members are welcome to come to my Northern Region at any time.
