HC Deb 11 February 1970 vol 795 c1251
34. Mr. John Wells

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what increases in fish meal prices have been caused by the recent increase in import levy imposed by the White Fish Authority; under what powers the authority impose a levy on herring meal; and whether these changed prices are being considered in the Price Review.

Mr. Hoy

The levy does not come into operation until 15th February, but as it represents only about half of 1 per cent. of the current price of imported fishmeal, any effect will be small in comparison with the effects of market fluctuations. The levy is being applied to herring meal by a direction under section 4(9) of the Sea Fisheries Act, 1968.
