HC Deb 02 December 1970 vol 807 c1281
37. Mr. Hamling

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what representations have been made to him concerning the status of industrial civil servants; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. David Howell

Only a very few letters on this subject have been received by the Department since the present Administration took office, but I understand that a number of letters were received in May and June of this year.

Mr. Hamling

Is the Minister aware that there is considerable disquiet amongst industrial civil servants in the Woolwich area, particularly in the former R.O.F., about their status, salaries, pension rights, and so on? What steps have been taken to follow up the representations made in the spring of this year?

Mr. Howell

A number of steps have already been taken about superannuation, sick leave, and that kind of thing. The Government's general policy is to build on what is common between industrial and non-industrial civil servants.
