HC Deb 20 April 1970 vol 800 cc17-8
43. Mr. Bryan

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications if, in view of the recent increases in telephone charges, he will give an assurance that there will be no further increase on decimalisation.

Mr. Stonehouse

Yes, Sir. Some minor changes will be needed—for instance, the S.T.D. unit charge will be reduced from 2½d. to 1p. (2.4d.)—but the Post Office assures me that there will be no general increase.

Mr. Bryan

Will the right hon. Gentleman give a general assurance that decimalisation will not be used as a general device to increase Post Office income?

Mr. Stonehouse

Yes, Sir. I am glad to give that assurance.
