Nabarroasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what decline in immigrants entering Great Britain, including dependants, occurred during the 12 months ended 31st March, 1970, or the latest convenient date; and what further decline he now estimates will occur during the ensuing 12 months.
§ Mr. CallaghanIn the 12 months ended 28th February, 1970, the number of Commonwealth citizens admitted for settlement, excluding United Kingdom passport holders from East Africa, was 34,937 compared with 49,781 during the previous 12 months. This was a decline of 30 per cent. It is too soon to estimate entry for the 12 months up to 28th February, 1971, but the numbers entering this country have continued to decline in recent months.
