HC Deb 08 April 1970 vol 799 c534
23. Mr. Chichester-Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he is satisfied that adequate arrangements exist for the defence of British Honduras; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Healey

We have made it clear on a number of occasions that we shall honour our commitments to our dependencies. I am perfectly satisfied that adequate arrangements exist for the defence of British Honduras should the need arise.

Mr. Chichester-Clark

Bearing in mind the vulnerability of British Honduras to any hostile neighbour in the event of independence, will the Secretary of State say what contingency planning has been done?

Mr. Healey

The question of defence arrangements following independence will be a matter for any constitutional discussions which may take place.
