HC Deb 27 November 1969 vol 792 c609
39. Mr. David Watkins

asked the Secretary of State and Productivity what is the unemployment rate for men and for women in the Consett-Stanley travel-to-work area of County Durham at the latest convenient date.

Mr. Harold Walker

At 10th November, 1969, the provisional percentage rates of unemployment in the Consett, Stanley and Lanchester travel-to-work area were 7.3 for males and 2.4 for females.

Mr. Watkins

Is it possible for the hon. Gentleman to break down these figures in terms of age groups? Can he say whether there is a predominance of older men of working age amongst them?

Mr. Walker

I cannot give the breakdown offhand, but I shall be pleased to write to the hon. Gentleman to try to give him the information that he seeks. There is a problem with the older male workers, particularly redundant exminers.
