§ 23. Mr. Eadieasked the Chancellor of Exchequer what representations he has had from the paper industry as a consequence of his recent announcement on the import deposits scheme; and what reply he has sent.
§ Mr. William RodgersNone, Sir.
§ Mr. EadieThe paper industry is going through a difficult period, not of its own making. In the circumstances, does not my hon. Friend consider that schemes should be introduced which could be of assistance rather than a hindrance to the paper industry?
§ Mr. RodgersMy hon. Friend shows a proper concern, but I am afraid that nothing he has said or that we know about the industry would make us feel that there should be any changes as regards import deposits.
