HC Deb 03 November 1969 vol 790 cc631-2
22. Mr. Moonman

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he has now received all the evidence he requires on which to make a statement on the implementation of the Seebohm Committee Report.

Mr. Crossman

Not quite yet. I would refer my hon. Friend to what was said by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister on 28th October about the Government's intention to legislate on matters arising out of this Report.—[Vol. 790, c. 31-3.]

Mr. Moonman

I am sure that my right hon. Friend will appreciate that there was great excitement when the initial announcement was made in the Queen's Speech. Will he now say, very briefly, which Government Department will be responsible for co-ordinating and operating the service as presented by Seebohm? This is a simple but nevertheless essential question.

Mr. Crossman

That is a matter for later consideration. The Prime Minister explained how the Home Secretary and I, jointly, would conduct the Bill through the House.
