Lords Amendment: No. 9, in page 14, line 3, at end insert— 'employment voucher' means a voucher of the kind described in section 2(3)(a) of the Act of 1962;".

I beg to move, That this House doth agree with the Lords in the said Amendment.

This Amendment supplies a definition of the term "employment voucher" which was used in the Government Amendment to Clause 9.

Lords Amendment: No. 11, in page 14, line 30, after "(5)" insert Sections (Power to refuse admission to wives and children under 16 if they do not hold entry certificates) and (Liability of owners or agents of ships and aircraft for expenses incurred in respect of persons directed to be removed from the United Kingdom) shall come into operation on the passing of this Act and the other provisions of".

I beg to move, That this House doth agree with the Lords in the said Amendment.

Clause 22(5) in its present form empowers the Secretary of State to make orders fixing dates on which the various sections of the Bill are to come into operation. The effect of the Amendment is that the new Clause mentioned in it will come into operation as soon as the Bill receives Royal Assent, without any commencement order having to be made by the Secretary of State. We have already explained this evening the reason for bringing the new Clause in at once.
