§ 27. Sir J. Rodgersasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what were the reasons which led him to curtail the size of the council housing programme of the Sevenoaks Rural District Council.
§ Mr. MacCollThe Council was allowed to proceed with its programme after it had fully explained the case for two additional schemes.
§ Sir J. RodgersIs the hon. Gentleman aware that there is a great shortage of land for building purposes since most of the area available to the local council is in the Metropolitan green belt? Will he use his good offices with the G.L.C., which has 800 houses in the area, to see whether, when any of these houses fall vacant, they cannot be given to people who have grown up on the G.L.C. estate and have then got married instead of these people having to go on the rural district council's housing list?
§ Mr. MacCollI know that there are problems in relation to the overspill, but I am sure that the G.L.C. and the local authority will co-operate. My right hon. Friend will do his best to facilitate such co-operation.
