§ 30. Mr. Juddasked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity how many companies have had or are receiving assistance from the Manpower and Productivity Service of her Department.
§ Mr. Harold WalkerThe Manpower and Productivity Service has been in contact with some 1,500 firms during the Mast six months and has carried out detailed surveys of problems impeding productivity in about 60 organisations in the public and private sectors. My officers are also in touch with firms, employers and trade unions in a number of major industries.
§ Mr. JuddCan my hon. Friend say what action his Department intends to take to extend its activities on the basis of this excellent record? Can he also say what collaboration his Department has had on this score with other Government Departments involved in production such as naval dockyards and Ordnance factories?
§ Mr. WalkerThe resources of the Manpower and Productivity Service are 26 available to other Government Departments, some of which have taken advantage of them, for example, the Ministry of Defence, with particular application to naval dockyards. There is an increasing demand for the service because it is proving so successful in so many areas, and its efforts are becoming more widely known and publicised.
