§ 25. Mr. Manuelasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what has been the increase in the number of places available in teacher training colleges since 1962 to the nearest available date; and how many qualified in each of these years.
§ Mr. MillanThe increase in places to date totals 3,945. For the rest of the Answer I will, with permission, circulate the figures in the OFFICIAL REPORT.
§ Mr. ManuelI thank my hon. Friend for that reply. Does he agree that even the number that he has given today certainly proves how successful we have been in providing more places and that it destroys completely the spurious attempts by the Opposition to say that our plans will not succeed?
§ Mr. MillanThe number of places has been considerably increased, and the output of qualified teachers has increased by no less than a third over the last three years.
