HC Deb 10 March 1969 vol 779 c973
47. Dr. Gray

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will take steps to arrange for medical practitioners visiting their patients to be allowed special privileges in street parking.

Mr. Bob Brown

The police exercise discretion whenever traffic conditions permit in favour of doctors who display on their cars the badge issued by the British Medical Association. I see no reason to change this arrangement.

Dr. Gray

Has my hon. Friend considered issuing instructions to traffic wardens everywhere to behave with the same courtesy and permissiveness as the police so that doctors are not harassed when on their professional rounds visiting their patients?

Mr. Brown

Traffic wardens come under the direction of the police in the various areas, and I would suggest that this is a matter for the police inspector or sergeant in charge.
