§ The Lord President of the Council and Leader of the House of Commons (Mr. Fred Peart)With permission, Mr. Speaker, I should like to make a short business statement.
On Thursday, 13th March, instead of the business already announced, there will be a debate on Nigeria, which will arise on a Motion for the Adjournment of the House.
At seven o'clock the debate will be interrupted momentarily for the postponement of opposed Private Business, and the debate on Nigeria will continue until 10 o'clock.
Mr. Speaker, I am sure that the House will be grateful to the Chairman of Ways and Means for his agreement to this arrangement.
§ Mr. HeathI thank the Leader of the House for acceding to the many requests made last Thursday afternoon by my right hon. Friend the Member for Barnet (Mr. Maudling) and right hon. and hon. Members on both sides of the House. I am sure that what he has arranged for this coming Thursday will meet the wish of the House.
Does the right hon. Gentleman realise that with this week's business the Opposition will not have had a Supply day at their disposal for three weeks? Could he give us an assurance that next week, at any rate, we will have one day at our disposal?
§ Mr. PeartI am aware of that. I am grateful for the right hon. Gentleman's comments on the rearrangement of business.
The Vote on Account will be brought before the House one day next week. It will, however, be a matter for the Opposition to decide the business to be taken then. Similarly, it will be for the Chairman of Ways and Means to say when there shall be a further opportunity for opposed Private Business.
