HC Deb 04 March 1969 vol 779 c209
29. Sir B. Rhys Williams

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what benefit he estimates will accrue to the balance of payments in 1969 through the purchase of British assets by United States investors; and what provision he will make for payment of interest and royalties on new and extant United States investments.

Mr. Harold Lever

It is not the practice to publish forecasts of overseas investment and earnings.

Sir B. Rhys Williams

We understand that a great deal of American investment is taking place this year. Would it not be better to stop selling Britain to the Americans and to put the proceeds straight into the current account?

Mr. Lever

That is an altogether different matter from the Question asked.
