HC Deb 04 March 1969 vol 779 c196
13. Mr. Tom Boardman

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will place in the Library a copy of the information on public expenditure he presented to the National Economic Development Council on 5th February, 1969.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

I refer the hon. Member to my statement on 20th February, 1969—[Vol. 778, c. 779–81.]—and to Chapter 5 of the Economic Assessment to 1972, which was published on 26th February.

Mr. Boardman

Did not that statement show that the forecast of public expenditure was the same as in the National Plan, and that the growth projected in the National Plan over five years has not been maintained? How, therefore, does the right hon. Gentleman justify this rate of public expenditure?

Mr. Jenkins

That question was asked about three times when I made my statement to the House two weeks ago, and was also answered three times. It does not bear relationship to the period that is being dealt with here, which is the next year and the year beyond that, where quite different figures are given.
