§ 14. Mr. Goodhewasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the cost to public funds of the publicity being given to the change of the colour code used in three-core electrical flexes.
§ Mr. Merlyn ReesAbout £85,000. Considerable publicity is also being arranged by the Electricity Council and area boards, as well as by safety and trade organisations.
§ Mr. GoodhewDoes the hon. Gentleman believe that that amount of expenditure is really necessary in view of the fact that the regulations require that explanatory labels should be fitted to all flexes on appliances sold in this country up to 1st January, 1977?
§ Mr. ReesWe still think that it is necessary to do this. In the first phase when the old type of flex will still be in use we shall be distributing five million leaflets, films and so on. In the second phase we shall be distributing 17 million colour code cards. We think that it is necessary to do so.
