§ 33. Mr. Peter M. Jacksonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will institute an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the suppression by the Criminal Record Office of data concerning a prosecution witness in the case of Crown versus John Lovesay and Anthony Peterson, whose name has been sent to him.
§ Mr. Elystan MorganThe Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis informs me that the information was not suppressed. The convictions were in names other than that by which the witness was known at the time of the trial, and had not then been traced.
§ Mr. JacksonWill my hon. Friend explain to the House the serious discrepancies between the reply sent by Mr. Palmes of the Director of Public Prosecutions' Office on 10th February and that subsequently sent by Mr. F. A. Lance? The information given about the name of the witness was the same in both instances.
§ Mr. MorganMy instructions are that there is no question whatsoever of suppression of records. The witness had come to the knowledge of the police under five separate names, and these differed from the name now used by that lady.
