asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether it is his intention in his forthcoming legislation to seek to relieve local education authorities of their share of the cost of secondary education.

As the right hon. Gentleman is threatening to over-ride local authorities and their electors on the question of the system of secondary education in their areas, is he not at the same time forfeiting any moral justification for compelling them to contribute financially?

Mr. Short

The right hon. Gentleman, who was for a long time a Treasury Minister, knows that the financing of education is not dealt with under the Education Acts. His Question refers to the Education Acts.
