46. Mr. W. H. K. Bakerasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for Scotland was represented at the recent Convention of the International Commission for the North-West Atlantic Fisheries held in Warsaw; and if he has received a copy of the proceedings.
§ Mr. BuchanThe Department was represented, and I am, of course, aware of the results of the meeting; but the Commission's report of the proceedings has not yet been received.
Mr. BakerIs it not a fact that only one country voted against a ban on fishing salmon off Greenland? Will the hon. Gentleman make representations to the Foreign Secretary to bring all pressure to bear against that country to get it to ban as well as the rest of the signatories?
§ Mr. Buchan; All my relevant colleagues are well aware of the position which the hon. Member has outlined.
§ Mr. MaclennanWill my hon. Friend say what action the Government propose to take to bring to the notice of the Danish Government the very strong feelings throughout Scotland, in particular, about their reluctance to adhere to the proposals put forward in Warsaw?
§ Mr. BuchanI prefer not to answer that, but the problem is known, our attitude is known and we have made our attitude very forcibly known to all the Governments concerned.
