HC Deb 03 July 1969 vol 786 c627
11. Rear-Admiral Morgan-Giles

asked the Postmaster-General what plans he has to abolish the Winchester postmark; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Joseph Slater

None, Sir; but when in a year or two letters posted in Winchester are dealt with at our mechanised Southampton office the majority of them will bear a Southampton postmark.

Rear-Admiral Morgan-Giles

So that answer is not "none"? It is intended to abolish the Winchester postmark?

Mr. Slater

Yes, but there will be no depreciation in the standards of service as a result of the changes we have in mind.
