HC Deb 25 February 1969 vol 778 c1269
30. Mr. Ridley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in view of the prevailing high interest rates, if he will raise the rate of interest from which is paid the prize money for Premium Savings Bonds.

Mr. Harold Lever

My right hon. Friend is currently reviewing all possibilities for increasing savings.

Mr. Ridley

Would the hon. Gentleman agree that the capital value of Premium Bonds is eroded by inflation, and that the income yield is now not compatible with what can be got from debentures? Will he review this so as to tap this very important form of savings?

Mr. Lever

I shall ensure that all these points are kept in our minds.
