§ 34. Mr. Moyleasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received on the increases in the price of hire of sports and recreational facilities in the Greater London area; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Denis HowellI have received a number of complaints about increased charges for the hire of sports facilities provided by the Greater London Council both from Members of this House and from private individuals. The charges for such facilities in local authority parks is a matter for the discretion of local authorities.
§ Mr. MoyleWould my hon. Friend not agree that this increase in charges is likely to have a deleterious effect on sports in London, and that the reason why this Question is on the Order Paper is that I wrote to him about 18 months ago and, despite several verbal reminders since, have not had a reply? Is this good enough?
§ Mr. HowellThat cannot be quite right, since these charges were put up much less than 18 months ago. If there has been a delay, however, I am sorry about it and I will look into it.
