§ 25. Mr. Alisonasked the Minister of Transport if he will refer to the National Board for Prices and Incomes the new schedule of toll and lock dues proposed by the Ouse Navigation Trustees for the Yorkshire Ouse.
§ Mr. CarmichaelWe are considering the trustees' proposals to see whether the proposed increases would conform with the Government's policy on prices. This process need not necessarily involve reference to the National Board for Prices and Incomes.
§ Mr. AlisonIn considering this matter, will the hon. Gentleman agree that prima facie a proposed increase of several hundred per cent. would probably make it inevitable that such a reference should be made? Will he bear in mind that if the proposed increase takes place traffic will be diverted from the empty rivers to the overcrowded roads?
§ Mr. CarmichaelMy right hon. Friend has asked for details of the proposed increases so that we can judge whether they conform with the Government's prices policy.
